The Pentagon announced that the military operation against the Islamic State would be called "Inherent Resolve."
A statement from the U.S. Central Command explained:
...the name INHERENT RESOLVE is intended to reflect the unwavering resolve and deep commitment of the U.S. and partner nations in the region and around the globe to eliminate the terrorist group ISIL and the threat they pose to Iraq, the region and the wider international community.
Inherent means "belonging to the basic nature of someone or something" or "intrinsic." It comes from the Latin words that combine to mean "to adhere."
