Apoplectic

Improbable dialogue on HBO's True Detective ...

When:

Lookups spiked on July 6, 2015.

Why:

The dialogue of HBO's True Detective included this exchange (spoiler alert!):

Semyon (Vince Vaughn): There's a certain stridency at work here. I'm going to put it off to you getting blasted.
Velcoro (Colin Farrell): Oh, frankly...I'm apoplectic.
Semyon: I'm feeling a little apoplectic myself.

Several online roundups included comments about words that seemed unlikely to be used by these characters, particularly the words apoplectic and stridency.

Apoplectic means "very angry and excited," and originally had the medical meaning "of, relating to, or causing stroke." It ultimately comes from the Greek verb meaning "to cripple by a stroke."
