Where does larp come from?

This use of larp is a figurative extension of the verb LARP meaning “to engage in a live-action role-playing game.” The noun LARP refers to a live-action role-playing game in which a group of people enacts a fictional scenario (such as a fantasy adventure) in real time typically under the guidance of a facilitator or organizer.

How is larp used?

While literal LARPing is an enjoyable activity for many, to say that someone is figuratively larping is … not so nice. This sense of larp is mostly used dismissively and disparagingly for what is seen as inauthentic behavior.
