  1. :  bovine mastitis that occurs sporadically especially in cattle on summer pasture and is caused by a pus-forming bacteria (such as Arcanobacterium pyogenes synonym Actinomyces pyogenes, Streptococcus dysgalactiae, or Fusobacterium necrophorum)
