Etymology

expressive coinage, with consonant frame perhaps suggested by potato

Note: The word patootie, in the collocation sweet patootie, was popularized, if not coined, by the American cartoonist and sportswriter Thomas Aloysius "Tad" Dorgan (1877-1929). It first appears in his comic strip Indoor Sports, which was syndicated by William Randolph Hearst's International News Service, in February, 1918. The sense "buttocks," with a variant patoot, is apparently not attested before the 1940's.
