"Ambiguous," "obscure," "vague," "cryptic," and "equivocal" mean not clearly understandable. "Ambiguous" applies to language capable of more than one interpretation ("an ambiguous suggestion") and derives from the Latin verb "ambigere," meaning "to be undecided."
