: a reverse transcriptase inhibitor C9H14N5O4P that is administered orally especially in the form of its fumarate C19H30N5O10P·C4H4O4 usually in conjunction with other antiretroviral drugs to treat hepatitis B and HIV infection

Note: The fumarate of tenofovir is commonly known as tenofovir disoproxil fumarate or tenofovir DF . Trademarks for preparations containing tenofovir include Atripla, Complera, Stribild, Truvada, and Viread.
