Biographical Note for macconkey's agar

  • MacConkey, Alfred Theodore (1861–1931), British bacteriologist. MacConkey introduced the use of an agar culture medium for the isolation of coliform bacteria in 1900. He is also known for introducing a method for staining the capsules of pneumococcus and pneumobacillus.
