Biographical Note for macconkey's agar
Alfred Theodore (1861–1931), British bacteriologist. MacConkey introduced the use of an agar culture medium for the isolation of coliform bacteria in 1900. He is also known for introducing a method for staining the capsules of pneumococcus and pneumobacillus.
