: a convolution of the temporal lobe that is the cortical center for hearing and runs obliquely outward and forward from the posterior part of the lateral sulcus

Biographical Note for heschl's gyrus

  • Heschl, Richard Ladislaus (1824–1881), Austrian anatomist. A professor of pathological anatomy, Heschl in 1855 published a textbook on the subject. The text includes his description of the convolution of the temporal lobe that now is known as Heschl's gyrus.
