: a pipit (Anthus spinoletta) native to Eurasia that breeds in alpine areas from southwestern Europe to central Asia

Note: The rock pipit (Anthus petrosus) and American pipit (Anthus rubescens) were formerly included as subspecies of water pipit, but are now considered separate species.
