  1. 1 :  any of several crystalline stereoisomeric cyclic dicarboxylic acids (C6H5)2C4H4(COOH)2 that yield cinnamic acid on distillation; 2,4-diphenyl-cyclobutane-1,3-dicarboxylic acid: such as a :  an acid obtained from alpha-truxilline by hydrolysis or from cinnamic acid by irradiation —called also alpha-truxillic acid b :  an acid obtained from alpha-truxillic acid by heating with acetic anhydride and sodium acetate and convertible again into the alpha isomer by stronger heating —called also gamma-truxillic acid c :  an acid obtained from the potassium salt of alpha-truxillic acid by fusion with potassium hydroxide —called also epsilon-truxillic acid
