Definition of sleeve valve 

: an admission and exhaust valve on an internal-combustion engine that consists of one or two hollow sleeves fitting around the interior of the cylinder and moving as the piston moves so that openings in them come into line with inlet and exhaust ports in the cylinder at proper stages in the cycle
