: any of three isomeric crystalline acids C6H3(OH)2COOH that are both carboxyl derivatives of resorcinol and dihydroxy derivatives of benzoic acid especially : the crystalline beta or 2,4-dihydroxy derivative used chiefly in making dyes, pharmaceuticals, and fine chemicals
