: a small chiefly European warbler (Acrocephalus scirpaceus) that is brown above and buffy white below, is often mistaken for the marsh warbler, and is usually seen about reedbeds and other marshy areas broadly : any of various birds of the genus Acrocephalus (as a great reed warbler or a marsh warbler)
