: a plant-parasitic nematode (Ditylenchus destructor)that attacks roots and tubers (as of potato or sugar beet) causing dry rugose lesions highly susceptible to secondary invasion by fungi and that has long been a serious pest of potatoes in northern Europe and is now known also from widely separated points in North America
