: a yellow-rumped warbler of a subspecies (Dendroica coronata coronata) found mainly in northern and eastern North America and distinguished from the related Audubon’s warbler by its whitish throat and white stripe above the eye I heard the flat, dull “check” call and realized that the myrtle warblers are back for the winter. — Paul H.
