: an oak of the genus Quercus (Q. douglasii) that occurs on sunny dry foothills and slopes up to about 3000 feet in the California coastal range, has smooth whitish bark, usually ovoid acorns maturing in one year, and stiff bluish-green deciduous leaves usually with irregular lobes, and grows to a height of 50 to 75 feet
