1 : a nonparasitic disease of the pear characterized by a blackening of the epidermis and flesh of the calyx end and believed to be caused by a disturbed water relation aggravated by uncongenial stocks
2 : a disease of the banana caused by fungi (especially Gloeosporium musarum) and characterized by a discoloration or rot of the fruit stem
