landlocked country in southeastern Africa between the Republic of South Africa and Mozambique; administrative capital Mbabane, legislative capital Lobamba area 6705 square miles (17,433 square kilometers), population 1,018,449

Note: Swaziland, formerly a British protectorate, became an independent kingdom in 1968 and was renamed Eswatini by King Mswati III in 2018. The name is sometimes written as eSwatini, but the officially recognized form is Eswatini.
