: a suborder of Hydroida that is sometimes regarded as a separate order of Hydrozoa and that includes hydrozoans, that has the hydranths and reproductive zooids unprotected by thecae, and that sometimes has medusae which bear the gonads in the manubrium and lack lithocysts
