Hunter's canalMain Entry: Hun·ter's canal Pronunciation: \ˈhən-tərz-\ Function: noun : an aponeurotic canal in the middle third of the thigh through which the femoral artery passes Hunter, John (1728–1793), British anatomist and surgeon. Hunter ranks as one of the greatest surgeons in medical history. He made very important contributions to the practice of surgery which based it on sound biological principles and transformed it into a scientific profession. He also devised an operation for a popliteal aneurysm. An account of the operation, published in 1786 by Sir Everard Home (1756–1832), included a description of Hunter's canal.
