or Sweet syndrome
: a disease that occurs especially in middle-aged women, that is characterized by red raised often painful patches on the skin and by fever and neutrophilia in the peripheral blood, and that is of unknown cause but is sometimes associated with an underlying malignant disorder
Note: Sweet's syndrome responds well to treatment with corticosteroids and complete recovery is possible within four weeks.
A high clinical suspicion for Sweet's syndrome is critical to management decisions because the primary treatment is corticosteroids, rather than antibiotics.—Ryan A. Withrow et al., The Journal of Family Practice
called also acute febrile neutrophilic dermatosis
