Tributes to Leonard Nimoy invoked Mr. Spock's Vulcan blessing ...

When:

Lookups spiked on February 27, 2015.

Why:

Tributes and obituaries for Leonard Nimoy included the Vulcan blessing that his character Mr. Spock made famous on Star Trek: "Live long and prosper." Many people also read about the Jewish origin of Mr. Spock's distinctive V-shaped salute that accompanied the phrase.

It's a coincidence that the first definition of prosper uses a word that is also the name of Star Trek's famous spaceship: "to succeed in an enterprise or activity." It also means "to achieve economic success" or "to become strong and flourishing."

Prosper comes from the Latin word meaning "favorable."
