Narcissism

A new study proposes a one-question test for narcissism ...

When:

Lookups spiked on August 6, 2014.

Why:

A new study has found that asking a single question accurately replaces a 40-question survey in order to identify a person with a narcissistic personality. The single question is this: "To what extent do you agree with this statement: 'I am a narcissist.' (Note: The word 'narcissist' means egotistical, self-focused, and vain.)" Participants are asked to rate themselves on a scale of 1 ("not very true of me") to 7 ("very true of me").

The study's authors have determined that a true narcissist doesn't mind being called one.

Narcissism is synonymous with "egoism" or "egocentrism." The disorder is named for the mythological Narcissus, who fell in love with his own reflection.
