Subterfuge

When:

Lookups spiked on June 25, 2014.

Why:

Republicans in the House of Representatives announced that they will sue President Obama for not "faithfully executing" the law, in their view. In response, Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi called the move a "subterfuge," adding: "They are doing nothing here and so they have to give some aura of activity."

Subterfuge means "the use of tricks especially to hide, avoid, or get something." It comes from the Latin word that means "to escape."
