Prima Donna

When:

Lookups spiked on April 5, 2012.

Why:

As the NFL scandal continued to unfold, a recording emerged of the defensive coordinator for the New Orleans Saints encouraging his team to injure the knee of a specific player.

Referring to 49ers wide receiver Michael Crabtree, the coach said his players should find out if Crabtree was a "prima donna" or a "tough guy."

Used this way, prima donna means "a person who thinks he or she is better than everyone else and who does not work well as part of a team or group." In Italian, prima donna literally means "first lady," and refers to the main female singer in an opera.
