Biographical Note for LOWE SYNDROME
Lowe, Charles Upton (born 1921), American pediatrician. Lowe was serving as chief resident in pediatrics at Massachusetts General Hospital when, in 1952, he reported the case histories of three male infants afflicted with the developmental disorder that is now associated with his name. In 1968 he published a full report on oculocerebrorenal syndrome, as it also came to be known, this time based on 57 accepted cases. In addition to holding teaching positions at a succession of American universities, Lowe served as Scientific Director at the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development and later in various posts at the National Institutes of Health and the Department of Health, Education, and Welfare.
