Biographical Note for TOMES' FIBER
Tomes, Sir John (1815–1895), British dental surgeon. Tomes did much during his career to upgrade the practice of dentistry, working to establish it as a profession and to ensure the proper education and registration of its practitioners. Between 1849 and 1856 he wrote a series of important papers on bone and dental tissues, and in 1850 he described Tomes' fibers.
