Biographical Note for SPIGELIA
Spie·ghel \ˈspē-gəl\ , Adriaan van den (1578–1625), Flemish anatomist. Spieghel was for many years professor of anatomy at Padua, Italy. He published a major treatise on human anatomy in 1627. He is also remembered for an introductory text on botany (1606). The genus Spigelia of herbs was named in his honor by Linnaeus in 1753.
