Definition of CANAL OF SCHLEMM

: a circular canal lying in the substance of the sclerocorneal junction of the eye and draining the aqueous humor from the anterior chamber into the veins draining the eyeball—called also Schlemm's canal, sinus venosus sclerae

Biographical Note for CANAL OF SCHLEMM

Schlemm, Friedrich S. (1795–1858), German anatomist. Schlemm described the canal of Schlemm in 1830. His description was not the first, for the canal had been noted as early as 1778.
