: a progressive neurodevelopmental genetic disorder that affects females usually during infancy, that is characterized by cognitive and psychomotor deterioration, slowed head and brain growth, stereotyped hand movements, seizures, and mental retardation

Rett, Andreas (flourished 1966–1968), Austrian physician. Rett published his first description of Rett syndrome in 1966, supplementing it with another report in 1968.
