: a series of usually concentric bands of a precipitate that are separated by clear spaces and that are often formed in gels by periodic or rhythmic precipitation—called also Liesegang phenomenon

Biographical Note for LIESEGANG RINGS

Liesegang, Raphael Eduard (1869–1947), German chemist. Liesegang was an outstanding colloid chemist. Investigating the chemical reactions occurring in gels, he discovered the periodic precipitation reactions in gels that are now known as Liesegang rings.
