Main Entry: Man·toux test Pronunciation: \ˌman-ˌtü-, ˌmäⁿ-\ Function: noun : an intradermal test for hypersensitivity to tuberculin that indicates past or present infection with tubercle bacilli—see tuberculin test Man·toux \mäⁿ-tü\ Charles (1877–1947), French physician. Mantoux introduced his test for tuberculosis in 1908. He is also remembered for reviving the use of pneumothorax induced intentionally by artificial means for the treatment of pulmonary tuberculosis and for advocating radiological examination of the lungs.
