: a method of treating poliomyelitis consisting basically of application of hot fomentations and rehabilitation of muscular activity by passive movement and then guided active coordination—called also Kenny treatment

Biographical Note for KENNY METHOD

Kenny, Elizabeth (1880–1952), Australian nurse. Sister Kenny first developed an interest in the treatment of paralysis while she was a military nurse during World War I. In 1933 she opened a clinic for the treatment of paralytic patients, most of whom suffered from poliomyelitis. She introduced the Kenny method for the treatment of poliomyelitis in 1937. Thereafter she worked for the general adoption of her method.
