James-Lange theory

Main Entry: James–Lange theory
Pronunciation: \ˈjāmz-ˈläŋ-ə-\
Function: noun
: a theory in psychology: the affective component of emotion follows rather than precedes the attendant physiological changes
Lange, Carl Georg (1834–1900), Danish physician and psychologist. Lange produced several noteworthy studies in medicine and psychology. In 1885 he published a major psychophysiological work on vasomotor disturbances and conditioned reflexes during periods of emotional stress. In this study he introduced his version of the James-Lange theory. Lange developed the theory independent of James and at almost the same time.
