: a watery solution of iodine and the iodide of potassium used in staining bacteria by Gram's stain

Biographical Note for GRAM'S SOLUTION

Gram \ˈgräm\ , Hans Christian Joachim (1853–1938), Danish physician. Gram introduced his method for the differential staining of bacteria in 1884. He also devised, in 1922, a method for determining the percentage of fibrin in blood and plasma. Further, he made investigations into the physiology of anemia during pregnancy and the hematoblasts in cases of pernicious anemia.
