Biographical Note for GIEMSA
Giemsa, Gustav (1867–1948), German chemist and pharmacist. For more than thirty years Giemsa did research at an institute for tropical and maritime diseases. He developed staining methods for malarial parasites in 1902 and for spirochetes in 1905 and a method of fixing living tissue utilizing mercuric chloride and alcohol in 1909.
