Biographical Note for CASTELLANI'S PAINT
Cas·tel·la·ni \ˌkas-tə-ˈlän-ē\ , Aldo (1878–1971), Italian physician. Castellani was a specialist in tropical diseases. His numerous contributions to tropical medicine include the discovery in 1903 of a species of trypanosome (Trypanosoma gambiense) in the spinal fluid of patients suffering from sleeping sickness, the discovery in 1905 that yaws is caused by a spirochete (Treponema pertenue), and the isolation of new strains of fungi causing dermatoses.
