  1. :  a periodontal disease that is marked especially by gray ulceration and necrosis of the gums accompanied by pain, bleeding, and halitosis and that is associated with the proliferation of microorganisms (as Fusobacterium nucleatum and Treponema vincentii) that are normally part of the oral flora—called also fusospirochetosis, necrotizing ulcerative gingivitis, trench mouth, Vincent's infection
