: thromboangiitis of the small arteries and veins of the extremities and especially the feet resulting in occlusion, ischemia, and gangrene—called also thromboangiitis obliterans
Buerger, Leo (1879–1943), American pathologist. In 1908 Buerger published an article on thromboangiitis obliterans. He presented the first clear description of this disease and distinguished it from endarteritis obliterans.
