Evans, Herbert McLean (1882–1971), American anatomist and physiologist. Evans made classic contributions to endocrinology and vitaminology. He was one of the few scientists to study both hormones and vitamins. In 1915 he published an explanation of the physiological behavior of vital stains in the benzidine series and did research on azo dyes, and in particular the dye now called Evans blue.
