CowdriaMain Entry: Cow·dria Pronunciation: \ˈkau̇-drē-ə\ Function: noun : a genus of small pleomorphic intracellular rickettsial bacteria known chiefly from ticks but including the causative organism (C. ruminantium) of heartwater of ruminants Cow·dry \ˈkau̇-drē\ , Edmund Vincent (1888–1975), American anatomist. Cowdry's areas of research included the pathology of virus diseases, rickettsial diseases, malaria, yellow fever, and east coast fever. In 1924 he discovered the causative organism (Cowdria ruminantium) of heartwater.
