Merriam-Webster Updates Student Dictionaries
Fully revised age-specific references based on new Eleventh Edition of Merriam-Webster's Collegiate® Dictionary
SPRINGFIELD, MASS., July 2004 — This month Merriam-Webster introduces two newly revised titles in its line of student references: Merriam-Webster's Intermediate Dictionary (especially for grades 5-8), and Merriam-Webster's School Dictionary (designed for students at the high school level, grades 9-11). Updated to reflect the bestselling Merriam-Webster's Collegiate® Dictionary, Eleventh Edition, both titles include thousands of new words and meanings ranging from the technical vocabulary of science to the everyday language of today's culture. In addition to expanded coverage of idiomatic phrases, both volumes contain thousands of usage examples, and hundreds of synonym paragraphs, word history paragraphs, and carefully drawn illustrations.

In October of this year, Merriam-Webster will add a brand-new title to its line of student references: Merriam-Webster's Intermediate Thesaurus. Designed to help students in grades 9-11 quickly and easily enlarge their vocabularies, the new Intermediate Thesaurus contains more than 157,000 synonyms, antonyms, idiomatic phrases, and related and contrasted words, and will be the perfect companion to the revised Intermediate Dictionary.
