Summary
The object of Syn City is to add all of the synonyms to the buildings before time runs out. Players move words one at a time into the buildings. But, there may be two words which must be placed into their own building. Any word put into a wrong building ends the game.
Instructions
- Click "Start."
- A word will appear on the middle of the screen. Read the words on the buildings below it.
- When you find the building with a synonym, click the building and the word will be added to it.
- If the word is not synonymous with any of the words on the buildings, click on the empty building. The word will become that building's synonym category.
- Once you have correctly added a word to its building, another word appears.
- When all twelve words have been added to their appropriate buildings, you win! There will be 3 - 5 buildings in your skyline when the game is completed.
- If you place a word incorrectly or time runs out before all words are placed, the game ends.
- Click "Play Again" to restart game.
Game Tips
Game Play
- You need to place all 12 words in the buildings. There will never be fewer than 3 buildings and never more than 5.
- If you make a mistake, the game will begin again. New words from the pool will appear in the buildings and the first word will be different than in the previous game. Starting from a different place may help you recognize synonyms.
- If you are stuck, look up one word in the Collegiate Thesaurus to give you a quick boost in placing the synonyms.
Strategy
- Don't go too fast! Take time to consider each word (and all its possible meanings) before you try to place it.
- Remember that a single word can function as more than one part of speech. For example, the word "low" can be a noun, a verb, or an adjective. Each part of speech will have different synonyms.
- Look for prefixes or suffixes that might tip you off that words share a common meaning (for example, two words that start with the prefix "in-" might both have the element "not" in their meaning). But don't rely on that too muchsometimes two words that are spelled similarly have very different meanings!
- Remember that synonyms share at least one common meaningbut they can still have some different meanings, too.
