Macintosh FAQ

Does the Merriam-Webster Dictionary Lookup Button work with Netscape Communicator for Macintosh?

The dictionary button requires Netscape version 4.61 or higher. The button does not work with earlier Mac versions of this browser because they do not provide a Personal Toolbar.

How do I add the button to my Netscape 4.61 personal toolbar?

  1. From the View menu, select "Show Personal Toolbar."
  2. Drag the dictionary link onto the Personal Toolbar.
  3. The dictionary button will appear on your toolbar.

How do I delete the button from my Netscape 4.61 personal toolbar?

  1. From the Communicator menu, select "Bookmarks", then "Edit Bookmarks."
  2. In the Bookmarks dialog box, open the Personal Toolbar Folder.
  3. Click on the dictionary button.
  4. From the Edit menu, select "Delete."

Does the Dictionary Lookup Button work with Internet Explorer for Macintosh?

The dictionary button does not work correctly with any current version of IE for the Mac. If you drag the dictionary link onto your Favorites toolbar and click on the resulting button, you will see an Internet Explorer Script Error dialog box. Thank you for your patience while we work to solve this problem.
