Southeastern district of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Occupying a narrow strip of land between the mountains and the sea, it is a popular resort area, famous for its magnificent 2.5-mi (4-km) curved beach along the entrance to Guanabara Bay. Hotels, nightclubs, and restaurants line the waterfront.
